6 Reasons why you should consider staying off-campus

It’s true. There are so many fantastic benefits that come with staying on campus. But there are a few surprising pros to choosing accommodation away from campus life – especially in the beautiful, picturesque Stellenbosch. Here’s what we found:

1. You’ll have the best of both worlds

If you opt for accommodation in a neighbourhood just outside campus, you can enjoy the happy buzz of student life during the day but still get that “family feel” when you head home after class.  Apart from that, many of the neighbourhoods in Stellenbosch are within walking distance of some of the most incredible mountain ranges  – making it easy to press pause, get outside and enjoy a walk, run or bike ride in nature!

2. Space!

Certain on-campus living spaces force you to squeeze your whole life into a tiny room – from eating and sleeping to studying and socialising. Off-campus accommodation usually comes with more space and better amenities, allowing you to have a dedicated place to hang with your friends while giving you the peace and quiet you need to focus on your studies.

3. You can choose who you live with

Living in harmony with others can really be an art – especially if you end up with a roommate you didn’t choose. If you decide to live away from campus, you’ll have the freedom to choose who you live with – making the adjustment of sharing a space with someone else a tad bit easier! And if you’ve been dreaming of living with close friends, off-campus accommodation is the way to go.

4. More Independence

From choosing what you want to cook for dinner to how you want to decorate your space, private, off-campus accommodation will give you a bit more freedom when it comes to day-to-day living. You’ll be able to create your own house rules and have more of a say when it comes to how you’ll be spending your free time.

5. A space to rest and recuperate

It is so important to prioritise rest and relaxation as a student, since deadlines and social events can fill up your calendar really fast. This is why being able to leave the demands of student life behind on campus and head home to a space where you can unwind and relax really is such a plus! From taking a slow walks in the fresh air during golden hour to enjoying a cup of coffee as you look out over the beautiful mountains of Stellenbosch, off-campus accommodation can be more conducive to rest.
